To reach the Atlantic Coast of Tierra del Fuego Island at Cape San Pablo, implies to drive about 110 miles, so in order to get the most out of the day in this remote destination, the journey will start at 7 am with your private guide meeting you at your place.
You will leave Ushuaia, taking the National Route N°3, heading north for 60 miles through landscapes of mountains, glaciers, forests, peat moss bogs, and lagoons.
During this first part, you will cross the Andes Mountain Range from south to north, going through Carbajal Valley, Garibaldi Pass, Escondido Lake, and Fagnano Lake up to the little city of Tolhuin (meaning hearth in the tongue of the Shelknam people).
In this young rural town, located by the east coast of Fagnano Lake, stop at a small farm for a complete country breakfast.
After Tolhuin, drive 20+ miles by road 3, leaving the mountains behind to reach the ecotone of Tierra del Fuego, the transition between the forest and the steppe, where the grasslands alternate with islands of trees. It is a landscape of ranches, sheep, and guanacos.
Leaving road 3, head towards the ocean, taking a winding gravel road for 20+ miles through picturesque rural landscapes up to Cape San Pablo.
Once by the sea, you will have the chance to take a leisurely 40-minute walk to the summit of the cape to appreciate the fantastic scenery. Also, at the beach, you will visit the shipwreck of Desdemona and will enjoy a special lunch at the house of a fisherman and his wife, who prepare authentic meals with fresh catch.
You will also enjoy several sights and stops when driving along the Atlantic coast of Tierra del Fuego. The order of the activities will vary depending on the tide conditions.
After spending the day exploring this remote region, seized the last moments with a hot cup of coffee, sitting by the sea before starting the trip back to Ushuaia.
The drive takes about 2 hours.
