Description

Departing from Ushuaia drive north into the Andes Mountain range following the National Route 3.
Within a couple of minutes start enjoying magnificent views from the big Carbajal Valley and its traditional cross-country and alpine ski centers. Also the peat moss covered bottom of the valley offers a wonderful reddish contrast to the landscape.
In this valley there are some pleasant scenic hikes to do, the chance to visit a sled dog center and also a unique local lamb or trout to indulge yourself in the restaurant of a ski center.
After a while driving along the valley cross over the Andes through the Garibaldi Mountain Pass. The road get winding and the views higher as we cross the mountains. Besides the great views there are some nice hikes in this area and also the chance to take an exciting off-road trail with a truck to arrive to the lakes region.
The first lake to find is the Escondido Lake. Hidden among the mountains offers a sheltered spot to enjoy a pleasant paddling experience.
Just a couple of minutes further and in the hearth of Tierra del Fuego Island discover the impressively big Fagnano Lake. A great spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while contemplating a vast landscape of water, forest and mountains.
From here is normally a good moment to return to Ushuaia driving the National Route 3 for about 50 minutes through the Garibaldi Pass and the Carbajal Valley.
There is a special experience waiting in this region for every explorer.
